Cascos Verdes, Argentina

We have been supporting Cascos Verdes since 2009 and enjoy a close relationship with the staff running the programmes in Buenos Aires.

Cascos Verdes raises awareness around environmental issues by working with young people with Down Syndrome, who act as ambassadors for the scheme. These young people receive a University education in Environmental Science, which gives them the keys to a profession that they care about and makes them feel valued.

After two years’ of training, these young people, named as ‘environmental educators’ tour schools, universities and companies in and around Buenos Aires to deliver presentations and sensitisation campaigns. As well as benefitting the audience, the programme helps the educators, bringing them in contact with local institutions and businesses.

The beauty of the Cascos Verdes programme is that it not only helps improve the perception of young people with disabilities, and increases their confidence, but it also provides a college education so they are well equipped to further their education in environmental subjects and eventually find a job.
