Seeking experts to create impactful case studies

We are seeking qualified consultants to develop case studies analysing resilience programmes funded by our Foundation and implemented by partners.

INTRODUCTION

Trafigura Foundation is a corporate philanthropy focused on climate adaptation and resilience. The Foundation manages a portfolio of 21 partnerships across Latin America, Africa and Asia.  We are seeking proposals from qualified consultants to develop case studies that illustrate and analyse the resilience dimensions of the work funded by us and implemented by our partners. For information about our current partners and their work, please visit this page.

These case studies will serve as valuable learning tools to understand effective approaches to building resilience among communities, ecosystems and organisations. Understanding how our funding contributes to our partners work in building resilience is essential for improving our philanthropic grant-making and investment strategies and sharing knowledge across our network. It will also help us assess the effectiveness of our Theory of Change.

SCOPE OF WORK

The selected consultant will develop three to five comprehensive case studies featuring the work of selected Trafigura Foundation partners. The case studies will:

– Analyse how partners define, approach and measure resilience in their work.

– Document key interventions and how they contribute to the resilience of people and
ecosystems, and to what type of resilience.

– Assess whether and how the contribution from Trafigura Foundation has played a
role in the resilience work implemented by the partner.

– Identify success factors, challenges, failures and lessons learned.

– Provide actionable insights for the Foundation and other funders working on climate
   adaptation and resilience.

METHODOLOGY

The consultant is expected to propose a sound methodology for developing the case studies. The components listed below are illustrative – we welcome additional ideas and approaches as appropriate.

1. Kick-off meeting with the Trafigura Foundation team to:

       – Align expectations and clarify objectives for the case studies.

       – Review the Foundation’s Theory of Change.

       – Collaboratively select the partners to be featured in the case studies.

2. Desk review

       – Review partnership documents and progress reports.

       – Examine existing research on resilience in relevant contexts.

3. Interviews with project teams

       – Agree and conduct in-depth interviews with project managers and other relevant
staff and leadership from selected partner organisations.

       – Document implementation strategies, challenges, and adaptations.

 4. Community engagement

       – Organise and facilitate a series of focus group discussions with members of
communities participating in the selected partnerships.

       – Capture firsthand accounts of community perspectives and indications of
         resilience impact.

 5. Drafting and quality assurance

       – Develop draft case studies following an agreed-upon format.

       – Submit drafts for review by Trafigura Foundation and partner organisations.

       – Incorporate feedback and revise as needed.

 6. Finalisation

       – Produce final case studies in agreed formats.
