New Partnerships to Advance Climate Adaptation and Equip Youth for the Green Economy

Trafigura Foundation announces three partnerships aligned with its new strategic focus on climate adaptation

The Trafigura Foundation has agreed three new partnerships, including initiatives to boost the resilience of agri-businesses and prepare youth for the green economy, strengthening its new strategic focus on helping people and nature to adapt to climate change.

Under its 2023–2027 strategy, the Foundation is concentrating on long-term partnerships and catalytic funding to achieve its goals, focusing on programmes with region-wide impact in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Specifically, the Foundation aims to contribute to climate adaptation by supporting sustainable livelihoods, prepared communities, and thriving nature. Five new strategic partnerships were already presented in February.

Among the partnerships announced today, new support will enable Root Capital to expand its provision of catalytic finance and tailored advisory services to small and growing agricultural enterprises, building their capacity to bring climate-resilient development to rural communities around the world. Root Capital will also seek to amplify its impact by making its successful model available to other organisations and financiers.

With Planet Indonesia, the Foundation has extended its support for the implementation of ecosystem-based adaptation in biodiversity-rich but at-risk ecosystems. Planet Indonesia, whose approach includes helping communities to secure land tenure and build village-level institutions to manage natural resources, will expand its activities in West Kalimantan Province and to other parts of Indonesia to enable more people to enjoy diverse, sustainable and resilient livelihoods.

Last but not least, Education for Employment will put green jobs at the core of its proven programmes providing youth and women in North Africa with the skills and opportunities they need to find work or start a business. Developed with Foundation support, Education for Employment’s new strategy will make sure young people are equipped to navigate the economy of today and tomorrow and raise awareness of the need to address high youth unemployment across the region.

The Foundation welcomes the opportunity to work strategically with our partners in the coming period to achieve impact through catalytic solutions, leverage long-term investment, empower resilient communities, champion ecosystem-based adaptation, collaborate to achieve scale and effectiveness, and support community-centred insight and action.
