The Trafigura Foundation is supporting the Blue Catalyst Fund, a recoverable grant facility dedicated to accelerating the conservation and restoration of mangroves and other coastal ecosystems.
The Fund focuses on bringing early-stage blue carbon projects to investment readiness by combining structured capacity building, access to technical expertise, and milestone-based funding. Projects must meet high feasibility standards and demonstrate strong partnerships with local communities, ensuring inclusive decision making and equitable benefit-sharing.
Designed as a revolving facility, the Fund reinvests returned capital from successful projects into new cohorts – creating a model aimed at long-term financial sustainability.
With support from the Trafigura Foundation and its partners, the Blue Catalyst Fund aims to accelerate high‑impact coastal projects – improving the lives of more than 324,000 people, restoring or protecting over 150,000 hectares of coastal ecosystems, and avoiding or removing more than 32 million tonnes of CO₂e by 2035. Along the way, it expects to unlock over USD 275 million in additional investment and help supported projects secure follow‑on funding.
